[ECG] Deck Check: Ethics Buster Reverse, Infinite Hellstand!

Hello there, I'm Lequier (Co-writer with byak, and quite obviously a big Pale Moon enthusiast!) and welcome back to another edition of Deck Check! As mentioned in our previous article, today we'll be looking at one of the most powerful "Reverse" units to date. Ever since it's debut into the JCG scene alongside his alternate self Ethics Buster Extreme, it has made a rather significant impact upon tournaments and taken the Nova Grapple by storm. Introducing the star of today's article... Deadliest Beast Deity! Ethics Buster "Reverse"!

Just like Ethics Buster Extreme, Ethics Buster "Reverse" is a crossride of the Beast Deity Break Ride Ethics Buster. But unlike his pure form, the original Ethics Buster is going to be a lot more important to your game plan than just being a defensive tactic. In fact, Ethics Buster "Reverse" can ideally turn the Ethics Buster break ride turn into one of the deadliest break ride turns in the entire game.
He may not be the Strongest, but looks can be Deadly...
Now let's actually talk about this skill of his, shall we? His Limit Break 4 allows you to once during this turn restand your Vanguard. Sounds pretty okay right now, doesn't it? Unfortunately it comes with a rather large cost... And I'm not exaggerating on this. In order to activate this skill, you must lock 2 of your Nova Grappler Rearguards, Counterblast 2 and discard 2 "Beast Deity" units from your hand. Ouch, that's a big cost. Okay, so maybe he's not looking so good right now. However, his supporting units more than make up for this large downside! To center stage... Ethics Buster!

Who's the Strongest now, Extreme?!
As mentioned earlier on in the article, Ethics Buster "Reverse" will turn this card into one of the most devastating threats out there. But let's analyse as to why, hm? Ethics Buster states that, upon the turn you break ride him, your Vanguard gains the skill of restanding your Vanguard whenever it declares an attack. The importance being on whenever it declares an attack. Now that your Ethics Buster "Reverse" can attack twice this turn, this means your Vanguard has TWO chances of using Ethics Buster's skill. This allows for you to get a massive momentum swing with 8 attacks in 1 turn consistently. Of course, your Vanguard also gains an additional 10000 Power as a rule of break riding. This just makes every Ethics Buster "Reverse" attack even stronger, with your opponent having to guard against 2 21000 minimum Vanguard attacks! This turn has been dubbed (rightfully so) as the Infinite Hellstand turn by the Cardfight!! Vanguard anime and many players have adapted to using this as their way of grasping victory!

4 Beast Deity, Ethics Buster
3 Deadliest Beast Deity, Ethics Buster "Reverse"
2 Strongest Beast Deity, Ethics Buster Extreme

In accordance to most JCG lists, this deck should look actually incredibly standard. However, I'll be sure to go over some of the more controversial choices. I'll start with the trigger line-up. Playing 8 Critical Triggers is a certainty that this deck should instead to stick toward (7 Criticals is fine too, just so long as you don't get too low on the count). This is because you really want to be seeing some of those critical triggers on your break ride turn. Being able to find a critical trigger allows you to make not only your Vanguard, but your forever standing Rearguards a huge pain in the neck as they'll be forced to guard an additional 5 on an attack that's near enough sure to kill! This is NOT a reason to play a full 12 Criticals, however. As the deck is purely aggressive, it has a lot of trouble keeping up in terms of advantage. This means that it can easily lose it's momentum with a sudden unsuspected push. A draw trigger allows you to build up that momentum before (or even after) they do the push, as well as be that trigger that arrives during their push to make sure they don't deplete your hand too much. Also, pay attention to the name. The deck really revolves around those Beast Deities, so being able to play as many Beast Deity cards as possible should be a key point.

Now to talk about our starter of choice: Beast Deity, Riot Horn! With it's desire for endless conflict, it can restand whenever a Beast Deity in front of it stands up. Pretty simple stuff, but a serious threat when put into practice. On the Ethics Buster into Buster "Reverse" break ride turn, you will be standing your Rearguards twice. This allows for your weaker Rearguard to have an additional 5000 power, making sure that they force even more guard from their hand. Putting it behind a card such as Beast Deity, Hatred Chaos even ensures that you can force out 10000 Shield on every single strike from him that turn (unless crossriden.)! This all really starts to add up when you take into account that this column also has the chance of getting an additional Critical and 5000 Power, meaning a 22000 Power column that attacks for the potential of dealing 2 damage...

And let's talk about a card that's always been a personal favourite of quite a few Nova Grappler players ever since his debut back in BT01: Screamin' and Dancin' Announcer, Shout! Simply by resting him and sending a card from your hand to the Drop Zone, he will allow you to draw an additional card. This can be crucial for many reasons. The first is that it allows you to get through your deck early in an attempt to find your Ethics Buster, so that you can guarantee yourself the Ethics Buster "Reverse" Break Ride turn to finish the game out! He also allows you to throw away non-Beast Deities which may be clogging your hand (such as Red Lightning) for Beast Deities that you can then proceed to throw away with Ethics Buster "Reverse", letting you lock the now resting Shout in the process! The synergy with Shout and the rest of the Beast Deities is a wonderful thing. He'll be sure to announce when Ethics Buster "Reverse" TKOs his opponent in no time! However, if you're not much of a fan of good ol' Shout, you should consider looking into Energy Charger. For a measly 2 Soulblasts when it enters the Rearguard Circle (In a deck you don't even want the Soul in!), you can draw a card. Of course, the quite apparent downside to Energy Charger is that it isn't as powerful when Ethics Buster "Reverse" isn't live, as you cannot lock it away and will have to deal with a 5000 Grade 1 being stuck on your board. If you are to use Energy Charger, use it with caution!
Strongest Back-up Plan!

And to close it out, let's talk about a card who you might be surprised to see in the Deadliest Beast Deity variant... Ethics Buster Extreme?! As much as Ethics Buster "Reverse" does not want to admit it, he really is quite a powerful boss that can single handedly close games out through his powerful Limit Break turning any Grade 1 or higher Beast Deity card into a Stand Trigger! If somehow your opponent holds onto life through the Infinite Hellstand, get Ethics Buster Extreme to finish it off! For this very reason, we are also playing Beast Deity, Max Beat so that we can guarantee that our back-up plan works! Of course, Max Beat has other uses off of that turn as well which mainly consist of being a Beast Deity that has 7000 Power, but he truly shines when his best friend Ethics Buster Extreme is kicking it into overtime on the Vanguard Circle!

However, as every other Nova Grappler deck does, the deck really struggles against decks that control your board. Your Rearguards are an integral part of your plan and not being able to use them to their full because of your opponent's deck can hurt a lot. Your Link Joker match-up is also a lot worse than every other Nova Grappler deck, as you will have to suffer through the Chaos Breaker Dragon Limit Break if you aren't able to successfully resolve the Hellstand, leading in them taking your victory away from you with a single swoop.

To conclude and recap on what we've learnt today, this deck practically spells death for your opponent whenever Ethics Buster "Reverse" manages to break ride on top of his previous self. With an absolutely incredible break ride turn and archetype of cards to boot, it is no wonder that Beast Deities and especially the Ethics Buster line is shooting up in the Cardfight!! Vanguard world. However, be careful not to give your opponent the chance to capitalize on you after the Infinite Hellstand as using this ability tends to leave you in a weakened state from the massive costs that you have to pay for it. Make sure to keep your Rearguards safe (especially Riot Horn) and keep the pressure going! Next time on Deck Check, we look into the mysterious case of Captain Nightmist...
